ACTING LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Mona Pasquil was appointed Acting Lieutenant Governor on November 4, 2009. Prior to this appointment, she served as Chief of Staff to former Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi.

For nearly three decades, Pasquil has served as a senior advisor and strategist in numerous state and federal government offices, political campaigns and private companies. With a hands-on, open-door, can-do leadership style, Pasquil has successfully engineered four presidential, three gubernatorial, and numerous local campaigns across the country. She previously served as political director for twice elected California Governor Gray Davis, Deputy CEO for the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, California political director for Gore/Lieberman, as well as western political director for the White House Office of Political Affairs under President Bill Clinton. A lifelong Democrat, Pasquil served as a member of the Democratic National Committee from 2003-2009.

In addition to working with California’ and Washington’s heaviest political hitters, she has also worked as a strategic consultant for IBM’s national state and local government sales team, and vice president for MSHC Partners, Inc.

Throughout her career, Mona is most proud of her work mentoring California’s youth to become more active in their communities. A trailblazer for California Filipinas and all Asian Pacific Islanders, she is the founding president and current volunteer of the Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project of California, an organization dedicated to increasing API involvement in California policy. Pasquil also serves on the Board of Directors for My Sister’s House, a safe haven for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. She has served as a past chair of the Asian Pacific Legislative Staff Caucus, and past president of the Angel Island Immigration Station Historical Committee.

The daughter of a gifted jazz pianist and community volunteer who grew up listening to all-night jam sessions, Mona loves to sing. She loves to give back and trains for a Grand Canyon hike or marathon to fight cancer and raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Mona lives in the Sacramento River Delta with Chris and their dog Manny.
